Job Description:
As an HSE manager, you are responsible for developing, implementing and managing health, safety and environmental policies within the organization. Your main goal is to ensure that the work environment is safe and healthy for all employees and that the organization complies with all relevant Health Safety & Environmental laws and regulations.
Your duties will include identifying and evaluating workplace risks, developing and implementing HSE procedures and guidelines, training employees on health and safety, and conducting regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance. In addition, you will be responsible for reporting and investigating incidents and accidents and implementing improvements to prevent recurrence.
As HSE manager, you will work closely with various departments within the organization, such as HR, production and facilities, Environmental Social Governance (ESG) department, to ensure that HSE aspects are integrated into all business processes. You will have strong communication and leadership skills to raise awareness of HSE and promote a culture of health and safety.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
– Organize and provide professional support in the area of Occupational Safety and Environment to meet legal and regulatory requirements.
– You will advise managers and employees on workplace organization, training programs, the use of chemical products as well as the use of work equipment and collective personal protective equipment, fire prevention and the emergency plan.
– Participate and make recommendations for the analysis of the causes of incidents, occupational diseases and psychosocial risks at work and propose corrective measures.
– Conduct safety audits.
– Lead monthly Health & Safety Committees.
– Develop programs to improve behavioral safety and participate in risk assessments
– You will ensure day-to-day operations around all relevant environmental issues and be the central environmental contact.
– Develop and maintain positive relationships with federal, state and local communities
– Communication with all stakeholders including union representation is an essential part of your role.
– You report directly to the Vice President Manufacturing.
– You will spread the ‘safety-first’ culture within the organization
– Develop a mindset of continuous improvement in H&S through consistent management systems, both within the H&S team and operational teams.
– Ensure that all leadership levels are involved and actively participate and manage H&S in their areas of responsibility and teams
– Provides health, safety and environmental expertise and advice for all project work in deSter (Belgium) and other operational sites PRB (Thailand) and LIMA (Americas), as needed.
– Develop and carry-out in-house Environmental, Health & Safety training and communications that enable culture and competency development.
– Actively communicate with corporate EHS to align Business Unit strategy, plans and actions with Group strategic plans and roadmaps
– Work close together with the sustainability department on environmental related topics.
– Take on projects to improve the environmental performance of the company.
– Work on the Environmental Social Governance (ESG) strategy of deSter, focusing on environmental related data and projects in Hoogstraten, working closely together with the environmental footprint manager.
– Responsible for data collection to the ESG team related to EHS matters
– Responsible for the implementation and continuous improvement of the environmental
management system (related to ISO14001).
– Learn from other sites of deSter about their approach on EHS and educate them about the approach and actions in Hoogstraten (teams meetings)
Requirements
– Education background in (Industrial) Engineering or equivalent through experience.
– Qualified prevention advisor level 1 and Environmental Coordinator B.
– At least 5 years of experience in an industrial environment or demonstrable safety experience in the food industry.
– Hands-on mentality
– Knowledge of behavioral and process safety standards and ISO standards (ISO 14001).
– Techniques for risk identification and incident investigation
